Joshua sat across from me on Tuesday this week. He revealed his authentic desire to understand the Christian faith. Though new to our church, Joshua’s pursuit for spiritual truth is anything but new. (With his permission granted and his name changed, let me share some of his story).
For years Joshua has intensely pursued spiritual truth. He has literally searched high and low for spiritual answers. Reminiscent of the 1960’s hippies, while high on psychedelic drugs, Joshua has explored deeply eastern mysticism, and the claims of many who consider themselves enlightened spiritual gurus. It’s no wonder Joshua still hasn’t found what he’s looking for; God cannot be found anywhere else but in Jesus. “I am the way and the truth and the life,” Jesus declared, “No one comes to the Father except through me” (John 14:6).
Joshua’s spiritual pursuit has led him to CLA. With sincerity, Joshua declared to me, “I really want to learn what the Bible says; I really want to know about Jesus!”
There are many Joshuas all around us; some are family members, friends, neighbours and coworkers. Unfortunately, many settle for pseudo answers – answers which simply cannot fill their soul’s deepest hunger. Joshua’s spiritual pursuit has providentially led him to CLA; his spiritual curiosity has led him to you and me, and to our biblical understanding of Jesus.
What Joshua needs most is to be taught the truth about Jesus, and to be shown the way to Jesus. Joshua wants to meet with me again, and he longs to learn about Jesus. His story proves how imperative spiritual mentoring (AKA making disciples) is, and how important CLA’s classes really are. Whether, like Joshua, you are searching for Jesus, or you’ve been serving Jesus for years, we all have things to learn and ways to grow. Let CLA help you with your spiritual pursuits. Who knows?
