This week is a unique and special focus for WE ARE MISSIONS. Women and child support through local pregnancy support centers.
For years CLA has collected money in baby bottles between Mother’s Day and Father’s Day for South Surrey Pregnancy Options Centre. They are a registered Canadian Non-Profit Organization that has been running for the past 35+ years. They are dedicated to supporting women and their partners to make informed decisions regarding their pregnancies and provide childcare materials, maternity clothing, and safety resources. Some from CLA have volunteered there and we support them monthly through your General Missions giving. Clients are served regardless of their race, colour, religion, creed, national origin, age, disability, gender identity, sexual orientation, lifestyle, or other arbitrary circumstances. They illustrate Christ’s compassion and mercy through programs, support and counselling. In the heart of Surrey, they have reached out to over 120,000 clients and provide practicums for graduate students in the field of social services.
A newer partner and Sunday’s guest is a group called Advokate with centers in Langley (just down the street from the church), Abbotsford and Prince George.
Advokate Life & Education Services brings hope in action to women and families through pregnancy counselling and resources, baby supplies, postpartum support, post abortion care, community education and education in our schools. They state their mission as – “our mission is to promote the inherent worth and dignity of every human being. We do this by putting hope in action for vulnerable women and families facing unplanned pregnancy, offering them compassionate, tangible support that empowers them to thrive. We are an evidence based, non-sectarian registered charity with a strict policy of non-discrimination. We treat everyone equally regardless of race, colour, ancestry, place of origin, religion, family status, marital status, physical disability, mental disability, sex, age, sexual orientation, gender or political beliefs.” In our interview with Director Jared White you will hear about their after-birth support called “Beyond the Bump”, their post abortion care called “Reclaimed”, and their community educational program including school programs.
